Born March 5, 1944 in Albany, CA, Charlie James graduated from John Swett Union High School in Crockett, CA, in 1962. He received his Bachelors of Arts Degree and teaching credential from the University of San Francisco, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He subsequently received his Masters Degree, Educational Specialist Degree, and PhD in Psychology from George Peabody College for Teachers, now Vanderbilt University. He was the founding psychologist for Harbor Regional Center and later served as Executive Director. He headed the Behavioral Health Departments of Harriman Jones Medical Group and Healthcare Partners. After retirement, Charlie taught students with severe disabilities at Millikan High School, Long Beach.
