Scott Thompson played both soccer and football at Santa Rosa High School. He played soccer for the Dons for three seasons and graduated with a Bachelors in Business in 1995. He currently works as a Mortgage Broker in San Francisco.
USF hosted the Defending National Champions and current #8 UCLA Bruins and two Bay Area boys lead the Dons to a dramatic 1-0 upset victory. With 17 minutes into the game, Sablo struck again as the fleet forward flew past the UCLA fullback and got his head on the ball. Sablo lofted the ball over the 6-5 UCLA goalie into the back of the net for the only goal of the game. This goal sent players and the 1400-plus fans into a frenzy. With a 1-0 lead, the USF defense raised its play and repelled every Bruin attack. Besides the stellar offensive play of Sablo, it was goalie Scott Thompson, a native of Santa Rosa, who made spectacular plays to maintain the Don lead. Thompson played like a man possessed as he made five heart-stopping saves to ruin any Bruin chance. One terrific save was late in the second half and what looked like a wide-open shot for UCLA became just another stopped shot by Thompson. The Bruin forward paused just long enough before shooting and so allowing Thompson to block the shot and the US F defense to clear the ball (TheFoghorn)."
