Jim Boggan, converted from full to left half, had a field day, breaking away consistently with fast starts and sudden bursts of speed. A halfback on the 1951 grid team at USF, he is starring for the Camp Cooke Mules. His team will appear in Salinas this week-end against the S.F. Broncos. Joe Kuharich's Chicago Cardinals were beaten by oft-defeated Washington Redskins Monday night, 23-7. The defeat was doubly hard on Joe, for the Redskin coach, Curly Lambeau, is the man Kuharich replaced as Card mentor . . . Joe is very temperamental and a defeat makes it difficult to live with him. As one USF man commented Tuesday, "I wouldn't want to be within 100 yards of Kuharich after last night."

With seconds remaining to prove themselves, Brown faded back to his own with Jim Boggan and Jim Whitney, found no receivers, and decided to look good. He was off for 69 yards, and made the final touchdown of the game. Jim Ryan has been doing a great job as USF backfield coach in developing many reserves into prominent varsity contenders. Dick Huxley, fullback Jim Whitney, Gene Chess, and Jim Boggan have startled the crowds with their hustle and drive.

Santa Clara cannot hope to match the likes of Matson, Toler, Brown, Marchetti, and Scudero, in ability or quantity. Jim Boggan, the replacement for injured Joe Scudero at left half, is doing an admirable job. The 20-year-old, 185-lb. back from Yuba City is second to Matson in rushing with 106 yards in 24 carries for a 4.4 average. His peculiar running style, speed, and power up the middle has taken much of the pressure off Matson, and has therefore made the great fullback star more of a threat than ever (TheFoghorn).
