A native of San Francisco, Elmer F. Sprague graduated in Accounting in 1950. He was a member of the Sodality Club, and served in the U.S. Navy.

Sprague was an automobile dealer in Northern California and San Diego for many years. He was a 40 year member of the Kiwanis Club, supporter of Aztec Athletic Foundation of SDSU and former member of San Diego Golf and Country Club (SDUnion-Tribune).
