I was born in Matamata, New Zealand to American parents who were crazy enough to go on a planned vacation even though they found out about my impending arrival a few months before they were supposed to leave. We returned to the States as three and settled into the town of Crestline, CA a small community neighbor of Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains. a couple years later came a little brother, Colin who is still my best friend today. Life was full! Lots of boating, water skiing, hiking, snow skiing and recreational sports. My love of baseball was evident at a very early age and grew to play at a high level. Life in the mountains was amazing and my brother and I were lucky that our parents loved to see the world as well. This upbringing was the blueprint of what was to come. In 1991 I went on to play baseball at the University of San Francisco. Graduating in 1995 I coached for a couple years and then made my way to San Diego via a short stint in Santa Rosa, CA (which was a learning moment). My love of baseball never changed even after my playing days were over. I wanted to work in the game and was lucky enough to have met a few people who introduced me to Dr. Charles Steinberg who met with me and then introduced me to his Director of Entertainment, Tim Young. Tim changed my life forever by giving me a chance to work for the Padres on opening day 1996. That led to an 11 year career with the Padres in the media production side of the front office.

There was a one lay off between the padres and my current career that was tough but it also led to a passion I didn’t know I had. I joined DebtWave Credit Counseling in 2009 as head of their education department. a non-profit organization, the mission was to help educate people of personal finance. We now know this as financial literacy and became a passion of mine and does to this day 15 years later and that department is now the San Diego Financial Literacy Center (SDFLC).

I specialize in personal financial literacy education and promotion at the SDFLC, a division of DebtWave Credit Counseling Inc., a not-for-profit organization. The mission of the San Diego Financial Literacy Center is to educate and empower individuals and families to make sound financial decisions and develop positive personal finance habits for life (SanDiegoVoyager).
