Against San Francisco State last Saturday, the "Mini-Dons" racked up 13 goals while allowing the Gators only one goal en route to their fifth victory of the pro-season. Kevin Dineen played one of his better games at fullback until he was removed at the end of the first half. Kevin Kelly set up many fine plays from his left wing position. Other fine players for the Junior Varsity were Kelly Hagan at forward and Jose Alfaro, the goalie.
The match opened with USF halfbacks Ted Psaras and Kelly Hagan battling for control of the ball and mid-field. The Dons quickly gained control of the game and it was only a matter of time before they scored. Hans Friessen lofted a high pass into the California goal-mouth where Leon Heitman, facing away from the net, leaped high into the air, and scissors-kicked the ball into the net from 2 yards out for a 1-0 lead. The Dons added to their lead moments later when Alex Roboostoff found a man open in front of the Cal goal and fired a pass which bounded swiftly to the waiting feet of Friessen. Hans then faked the goalie and a defender out of his way and tapped the ball gently into the net. The Dons ended the scoring in the first half when Alex Roboostoof slammed home a rebound off a shot by Leon Heitman which had hit the crossbar (TheFoghorn).
