To add to its athletic program USF is going to float a swimming team this year for the first time Frank Foehr and Doug Taylor have been appointed to the positions of coaches and University recognition has been accorded. Coach Doug Taylor announced that "Pete Pelleta said he is firmly behind us. In February, we are going to start swimming in preparation for the tentative meets we have lined up in March, when the season starts. We hope to b e able to compete against Cal Frosh, San Francisco State, City College, the Olympic Club, and Contra Costa."

At the first meeting the team held last month, 28 experienced swimmers turned out. Among them were Bill and Frank Foebr, both former All-City swimmers from St. Ignatius, and Taylor, who was an All-City at Lincoln High. "Next year, if the team doesn't flop, we hope to be able to award Varsity blocks to our best participants. And, if we do really well, there might be scholarships on the same basis as the tennis team, and possible affiliation withe the NCAA. This year we are going to practice and hold our home meets at Hamilton Pool (TheFoghorn).
