Although the softball team is still developing, it doesn't seem to be blessed with any brilliant talent. Instead it has compensated by playing consistent team ball. Playing well as a team is the factor that turned around the Dons season, and it will continue to be important this season. But in order for this coherence to continue, veteran team members such as Sandi Piver, Ann Baida, and Julia McGuigan, who have already proven to be inspirational leaders, must continue to instill team spirit. "We've had a lot of position changes," said first baseman Sandi Piver. "But we've finally come together defensively.
Sandi Piver, in her debut out on the courts for the Dons, grabbed the only victory beating Sacramento's number five player 6-2, 6-3. The final team score was 1-8. Piver, a senior Marketing major who played softball for the Dons last year, didn't expect to win. "I'm not any better than the girls who I play," Piver said. "I just don't give up on any ball. I try to get everything back whether it's a good shot or not. Some people get frustrated with that." Her attitude certainly spread to the rest of the team when the Dons went from being the crushee to the crusher, smashing College of Notre Dame 9-0 on Feb. 10 in San Mateo (TheFoghorn)."
