Alvin Barrett was a native of Vallejo and graduated in 1968 with a Degree in Political Science. He was a member of the Block Club, St. Ive's Law Society, and played tennis for four seasons.

The 1968 season was a promising one for Coach McGlynn's tennis team. Facing a schedule of WCAC competition plus contests with Stanford, Oregon State, SF State, and Cal State Hayward, the Dons were optimistic about their chances.

The first four spots on the team were held by Rich Williams, Al Barrett, John Carpenter, and Bob Futernik. Greg Vervais, Dave Rychel, Walt Stone, and Tony Lau Fought for the remaining two posts.

With the entire team returning from last year, the Don netters had perhaps the most balance and depth of any team in the WCAC, and because of this, the league title was well within their reach (TheDon).
