Last year's third starter, behind Hendershott and Redling was junior lefthander Bob Nolan. He pitched several outstanding games, including a tough 1-0 loss to Santa Clara. He has the best fastball on the staff and shares the team strikeout record of 15 for one game with Hendershott.
Player of the Week BOB NOLAN P—L—5-10—190—Junior DALY CITY:
In the three-game series against Loyola last Friday and Saturday, Nolan virtually led the Dons to a sweep of the series. On Friday afternoon, Nolan came on to relieve Bruce Zimmerman in the ninth and pitched two perfect innings, striking out three. The game went 10 innings. Saturday, in the opening game. Bob was completely devastating as he mowed down the Lions with but one unearned run on four hits. Probably his greatest feat came from the fact that with the stick he accounted for more total bases than the whole Loyola team. While allowing those four singles, Nolan himself banged out a single, a triple and a two-run homer, to take batting and slugging honors for the Dons. To round out this stellar performance, Bob struck out seven with his sharp fastball and wicked curve (TheFoghorn).
