Nothing went right for the Dons in this one as staff ace, junior right hander Jesse Foppert (5-2) was knocked out after 1.1 innings where he was touched for 10 runs on 10 hits. Foppert did not get any assistance from a dismal USF defensive effort. The USF bullpen, behind extended relief from junior right hander Steve Moses, senior right hander Greg Moore and junior southpaw Scott Mooers combined to limit the Toreros to three runs the remainder of the way, but obviously the damage was already done.
Some highlights include: Dons Nick Tarbat roped a two-out single for what would prove to be the winning run last Friday, as the Dons won that game 3-2. Righthander Jesse Foppert lasted for eight strong innings, picking up the win and David Seccombe got the save.
Senior outfielder Dustin Delucchi (3-4, double, 3 RBI) pounded his 17th double oft he year and sophomore infielder Jesse Foppert (3-3, triple, three RBI) also enjoyed big days at the plate. As a team, USF knocked out 10 hits for extra bases, including three home runs (Trumble, Soares, Bozied), two triples (Jason Heise, Foppert) and four doubles (Tony Hurtado, Delucchi, David Naber, Keali'i Lum). USF pitching stymied the Hornets and allowed just six base hits and the Dons bullpen recorded seven strikeouts (TheFoghorn).
