Hugh Malley was a member of the Block Club, the Circle Block Club and the College Players. He graduated in 1940 in Liberal Arts, and he was the brother of Head Coach George Malley.

It was this year, 1937, that the Dons beat St. Mary's but didn't. Hugh Malley dropped out of the end position into the backfield. They fired him a pass, and he scored. It made the count 7 to 3, Dons' favor, but the officials ruled offside, so the "teedee" went for naught. Later, moving pictures of the play showed that the "refs" were the ones who were offside. The 1937 year wouldn't have been so bad had it not been for the final game of the season, which went to Texas Ags 42 to 0.

For the Dons had the kind of courage and heart not to be denied; Dick Eisenlauer, one of the finest guards on the field, ferocious Tom Rice, hard hitting Hugh Malley and big Blaz Miatovich offered Michigan State a stubborn defensive game, the.best that the Dons, perhaps, have played all season (TheFoghorn).
