Hard charging tackle Joe Shea set the Green and Gold eleven up for their first tally when he blocked a Pirate punt, and recovered the pigskin on the Pirate one foot line on the opening play of the second quarter. Halfback John McCauley then powered into the end zone for the score. Bob O'Neill drove off tackle for the conversion to put the Hilltoppers ahead 8-0. The Pirates took the kickoff, and began moving down field, but an intercepted pass by co-captain Mike Gregor of the Dons stymied the Navy drive.
