Jordi Esteban Trave played soccer for the Dons from 1997 to 1998. Prior to USF he played for Barcelona C from 1993 to 1994. He was born on August 5, 19075.
Garlick made a run down the left sideline and his cross into the penalty area was tipped in by a DePaul player for the first goal, six minutes before halftime. The second half saw Klevberg enter the game as a sub and provide an immediate spark, streaking down the left side with a sweet move on a Blue Demons defender. His cross found the head of touted JC transfer Jordi Esteban, who sent a dart off the crossbar. Marinescu found the loose ball off the rebound and netted it for a 2-0 lead. Senior Keith Ratzburg concluded the scoring off a long feed from Klevberg, outmuscling the lone DePaul defender back and scoring his third goal of the season. Despite the loss to Holy Cross, each of the four teams in the tournament— Santa Clara also split with Holy Cross and DePaul— finished the weekend with one win and one loss. The Dons were crowned champions by virtue of the goal differential in the two games. "Our game was more sloppy," said Visser of the DePaul win, which saw the Dons make numerous runs, but struggle with its midfield passing and ability to convert numerous scoring chances. "We should have had at least five or six goals."
Part of the Dons problems in the midfield come in meshing the new players—Chris Yantos, Alexander Akerjordet, Marinescu, Esteban, to name a few— with returners such as center midfielder Omar El Fakiri and Per Christian Larsen. Esteban, who has a powerful shot and shot six times against DePaul, and El Fakiri manned the middle against DePaul and struggled at times in distributing the ball. "Omar and Jordi need to learn to play together," said Visser. Esteban has played extremely well in the young season, and Visser singled out sophomores Yantos, Akerjordet, Marinescu, and freshman Garlick as newcomers who have also performed well thus far. Negoesco and Visser have the luxury of the dilemma of how to work injured returners Per Christian Larsen, Fabio Pires, and Carlos Fernandez back into the lineup (TheFoghorn).
