Harold R. Butler was a native of Oakland, and graduated in Biology in 1941. He was a member of the Wasmann  Biological Society, the Phil-historians, the Offcers Club, the Glee Club, the Foghorn staff, and the Rifle Team. He was a  Second Lieutenant, in the Coast Artillery Reserve.
