A native of San Francisco, Kullijian was a member of the Mraschi Club, the College Players, the Thomists, and was a Second Lieutenant in the Coast Arillery Reserve.

Harry Kullijian was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Turlock, the son of James and Theresa Kullijian. In 1923, his father moved the family to San Francisco, where he opened a tailor shop.

In 1942, Kullijian graduated from the University of San Francisco. He had planned to continue onto law school, but entered the military during World War II instead. After the war, Mr. Kullijian became a Real Estate Broker and Contractor, but was recalled to military service during the Korean War. After his second tour of duty, he moved his family to Modesto in 1955, where he began farming and became involved in local politics. He served two terms on the Modesto City Council and later helped establish an anti-pornography organization called Citizens Leading Effective Action Now (CLEAN) (SFGate).
