On the opening kick-off the Dons looked as though they were going to put it all together as Andy Szabatura carried to the U.S.F. 42. From here quarterback Ron Centerwall completed a 14-yard aerial to Steve Ramsey, and a pass interference call gave the Dons the ball on the Sonoma 15-yard line. However, the Dons were forced to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Urbano Boucsieguez as the offense stalled.
In the fourth quarter the Dons came back for their final score after a UC Davis fumble put them in good field position. After driving to the one yard line. Centerwall sent halfback Andy Szabatura over for the score (TheFoghorn).
