The University of San Francisco basketball team will have at least four new faces on it next year, because thc Dons have signed four players to letters of intent the 1989-1990 season. The new Dons are 6-10 center Ben Klash, 6-8 power-forward Scott MacDonald, 6-5 guard-forward Roy Modkins, and 5-11 guard Leon Clinton.

Sophomore forward Roy Modkins led the Dons with 16 points and Owens chipped in 15, earning him a spot on the All-Tournament team. After rallying from as many as nine points down, Darryl Johnson converted a layup and a free throw to lie the score at 50 with 5:17 left in lhe game. From then on out though, it was all Pepperdine. The Waves went on a 15-3 run to take a 12 point lead. Roy Modkins hit a three-pointer al the buzzer to make the final margin of victory nine. "We weren't going to have any letdowns, not two games away from the championship," said USF coach Jim Brovelli. "All I can ask of the guys is they give a total effort You can walk away with your head up, you gave everything you had."

Mike Brovelli, son of Coach Brovelli, was a solid backup at point guard last season. Playing in 28 games, Brovelli dished out 35 assists despite a rough freshman campaign. Coach Brovelli will be expecting more consistent play from junior guard-forward Roy Modkins. Modkins averaged five points and 2.5 rebounds in 24 games last year. Consistent play is also expected of 6-8 sophomore Jason Boyd who was hampered by a knee injury most of the season. Boyd still averaged 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in only 16 appearances. The nine returnees will be joined by four newcomers who will step in right away to help the Dons (TheFoghorn).
