Down by three in the ninth, one would think USF's chances of salvaging a victory to be about zero, but the Dons bats awoke for five singles. Billy McCaffery started things of f wi th a shot down the third base line and was moved to second on Heath Haberlin's Texas Leaguer. With one out, Junior pinch hitter Matt Perata (Laney JC transfer) drove home McCaffery. The next batter, Billy Bulanti hit a shot into left field to score Haberlin and trim the SMC lead to 3-4.
The Diamond Dons' infield will have to rebuild in 1993 after loosing all five starters from a year ago. Battling it out for the first base spot will be Nelson and JC transfers Chase Peckham and Matt Perata; the edge to Nelson. It's up in the air who will start at 2nd base,either 1992medicalredshirtMarkFrizzi or returner Rob Hanke. Hanke will most likely get the start as the elder statesman. Put reliable fielder Jon Rochlin and his surprising power at short stop. Billy Bulanti, a recent transfer from Washington State, is the likely starter at third (TheFoghorn).
