Allio suffered from tendinitis over the off season and was not able to throw, consequently his early season performance wasn't what was expected of him. Center fielder Kevin Cronin is facing his old teammates for the first time today after transferring two years ago. USF also has another outfielder who transferred from the Broncos, Craig Scarpelli, who must redshirt this year. As in all USF-Santa Clara rivalries, baseball has produced some memorable battles over the past, none more memorable than in 1971 when USF went into the final series of the season needing one game to clinch the conference championship.
