Monico Corral played shortstop for the Dons, and was drafted by the Giants in the 17th Round, (425th overall) in 1981.

The Dons could surprise some teams in the second round. They may have the best double-play combination in the league in second baseman Bob Woodcock (batting .396), and shortstop Monico Corral. Greg Eagleton hit 6 home runs in the first half and center fielder John Mangiante has a .365 batting average. If the Dons can continue to get good production from these players, with Monico Corral breaking out of his slump as he has shown signs of doing, and continued good pitching, the Dons may just give Santa Clara and Fresno State a run for their money in the second half.

The Dons got both runs back in the bottom half of the inning, when shortstop Monico Corral drilled a homer over the left field fence to make it a 2-1 game. After 2nd baseman Bob Woodcock walked, and Dave Paulus reached base on a fielders choice, Mangiante grounded to the shortstop who then threw the ball into right field trying to get the runner at 2nd. Woodcock scored the tying run and the Dons had a potential big inning in the makings, with runners at 2nd and 3rd and none out. But again the Dons failed to score when Eagleton struck out, Mooney hit a sharp grounder to second and right fielder Al Pasquinelli struck out to end the inning.

The Dons highlights of the game came from the bats of Mike Mooney and Monico Corral. Mooney hit his 4th homer of the season and Corral had his 7th in a losing cause. The Dons record is now 16-40 for the year. The Dons will certainly be hurt by the loss of graduating regulars Corral, Mooney, Woodcock, Greg Eagleton and Ralph Gentile Plus graduating pitchers Nat, Parks, Con Dempsey and Joe Miller. But on a brighter note, the Dons will still have the services of Mangiante, Paulus, Miles, and Steve Scolini. If next years Dons can look to these players for leadership because of their experience, and the senior class replacements can get some experience, next year's team could prove to be an interesting one (TheFoghorn).
