Midfield appears to be very solid for the Dons in 1989. Alongside Haines, sophomore Laurie Sargent, says Visser, "will provide a lot of leadership." Transfer Kristin Hynes and sophomore Melanie Somers will add yet more scoring punch. The USF women came out inspired in the second half and completely dominated their opponent. Heidi Galvez, 11 seconds into the half, drilled an unassisted goal over the head of the San Bernadino goalie giving her team a lead they wouldn't lose. Pamela Riggs and Kristin Hynes each added goals as the Dons coasted to a 4-1 win. "The last few games we've really started playing as a team, and our record reflects this," comments sophomore Laurie Sargent on her team's current success.
The hard, consistent play of Kristin Hynes is worthy of recognition according to Anton. Hynes transferred to USF from Foothill Junior College, and has added scoring punch, speed, and experience to the Don frontline (TheFoghorn).
