A native of Spokane, WA, Butler played baseball from 1947 to 1949, was a member of the Letter Society, and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors in Business.
Last Sunday the Dons went into the top half of the seventh and last frame (time limit) with a comfortable 3-1 working margin due chiefly to timely stick-work by third sacker Reno De Benedetti. Tom Butler, last year's mound ace, went in to hurl the final frame and was greeted by two runs and a tie ball game. In the final half, a clutch single to center by Pete Maloney brought in De Benedetti, who had singled earlier. Baptista, and Sbragia worked well on the hill for the winners. Reno De Benedetti led the batting parade with three of the club's seven hits—the same number collected by the Dodger nine (TheFoghorn).
