Biography: Raymond McCoy was a four-year starter for Bloom High School in Chicago Heights. During his career at Bloom, McCoy scored more than 2,000 points and was credited with more than 500 assists. McCoy was named to most All-State teams as a junior and as a senior. In addition, McCoy was named to Parade Magazine’s All-American team as a senior. McCoy was ranked with Isiah Thomas of St. Joseph High School, in Westchester, as the two best guards in the country in 1979.  Raymond played in the national All-Star games in Louisiana, Houston, New York, Washington, D.C.  Wichita and Pittsburgh. McCoy played at The University of San Francisco and De Paul University (BasketballMuseumIL).

The athletic department announced early this week that two of its basketball players, Raymond McCoy and Mike Rice, will not be attending the University of San Francisco for the 1980-81 season. It was reported that Raymond McCoy will probably be transferring to DePaul University. McCoy, a 6-1 freshman guard from Chicago Heights, Illinois, told coach Dan Belluomini that he would definitely be leaving USF after this semester. "The decision was a personal one," confides Belluomini, "I think that Raymond would like to play closer to home." Whether Mccoy will play for DePaul is still uncertain. However, a reporter from the Chicago Sun Times told the Foghorn that McCoy was in the process of becoming enrolled in that school. DePaul athletic department refused to comment. There he will compete in NCIA competition. Unlike the NCAA, the NCIA does not require an athlete to sit out a year. McCoy was one of the most highly sought point guards in the country last year. At USF he averaged 11 minutes a game and shot 61.1 per cent from the line and 36.5 from the floor (TheFoghorn).
