Shooting in the three position match, kneeling, standing and prone requires a steady heartbeat, steady aim, and nerves of steel. The ability to punch a hole the size of a period in a piece of paper while utilizing a .22 caliber rifle, and a specialized shooting jacket for increased friction and support through a set of open sights (no high powered scopes allowed) is to say the least difficult. The USF rifle team is the only coed sport on the Hilltop. Shooting for the Dons at the Gonzaga and Washington matches will be Kara Cretti, Stephen George, Jeffrey Tisor, and Matt Waclawick. The two alternates will be George Molinari and Susan Kazmer. Susan Kazmer is usually on the first team, but an injury sustained while playing soccer inhibits her from shooting positioning, and thus she remains an alternate. Coach Lee anticipates that the USF rifle team will be competing against the University of Wyoming today in Colorado Springs.
The Rifle Team will be shooting at the sectionals on Saturday and Sunday. Senior Kara Cretti is the premier shooter for USF. She is followed by Jeff Tisor, James Icard and John Rocco. "In terms of competition," said Head Coach David Lee, "Riflery is the only sport that's co-ed (TheFoghorn).
