USF Golf Among Best at WCC Championships: Foghorn Staff Report

The USF women's golf team finished second to Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference golf championship on Tuesday, while the USF men's team finished in a fourth-place tie. The women's team, last year's WCC champs, finished 52 strokes behind Pepperdine (891-943) in the three-day event, but did finish well ahead of third- place Gonzaga.

The men's squad was only 12 strokes off the winning score of freshmen in the top 13, paced by 869 by champion Santa Clara.

Dons senior Maria Borjesson made the WCC All-Conference team by shooting a 229, 13 shots off the winning pace and good for fourth place in the individual standings. Freshman Natalie Nakamura and senior Andrea Dunning finished in eighth place and tenth place, respectively.

The men's squad placed three freshmen in the top 13, paced by Chad Thompson, whose score of 219 was only four shots back and earned him in a sixth-place tie and All-Conference Honors. Matt Larson finished tied for ninth, only one stroke behind Thompson, and Fernando Gomez shot a 221, landing him in a 13th place tie (USFFoghorn).
