Close on Skip's heels, however, is senior catcher Jim Beasley. Jim's 15 hits in 37 attempts gives him a strong .406 average. Sophomore second sacker Rick Kuhta follows Beasley, as Rick's 18 hits, the highest number on the squad, in 58 attempts gives him a .310 batting average. He has also scored 12 runs, the most of any Don, which shows why Coach McGlynn has Rick hitting in the all important lead-off spot.

Hilltop baseball teams finish season with a 25-27-2 record The Varsity baseball team ended the season on a losing note by dropping their last three games, two to the San Francisco State Gators and one to the Santa Clara Broncos. The losses gave the Dons a final season record of 17-15-2. It also marked the end of the Hilltop careers of six fine senior players, Jim Beasley, Ed Subica, Frank Burch, Mike Green, Dave Gonsalves and Larry Marietti. Burch was the Don's strongest starting pitcher, but next year Carl Boyer and Joe Gualco should be the mound mainstays. When Beasley was injured, Subica moved from the outfield to amply fill in the catcher's position. Larry Marietti, the slugging left fielder, has contributed greatly to Don baseball, as have relief pitcher Green and third- sacker Gonsalves (TheFoghorn).

A native of Hillsborough, Jim Beasley graduated in 1966 in Business. He was a member of the Block Club, the yearbook staff, and also played Flag football.
