The Dons invade the Aggie yard stripes backed by Ken Hall, Ed DeAntoni, John McCauley, Al Revells, and John Sterling. In back of a line made up of John Ahern, Pat Freeman, Jim Kenney, Del Krause, Leroy Lounibus, Larry MacKenzie, John Strain, Mike Murphy, Joe Napier, Mike Sandbach and Bob Guy, the Dons should give the Aggies a run for their money (TheFoghorn).

The Don attack, operating from a slot-back type of offense, which featured the aerial game, and which soon began to incorporate spreads and double win variations, capitalized on the backfield talents of four-year veteran and captain Ed DeAntoni, swift John Sterling, and rugged Al Ravella, while rookie George Hauser moved up swiftly to give the Green and Gold a fine assortment of tight backs. Joe Petterle, a soft-spoken freshman from Yuba City, demonstrated his poise and throwing ability at the quarterback spot, and did so in such impressive fashion, that it was possible for Bill LaPlante to concentrate his efforts at end, where he became the Dons top threat as a deep receiver. At the slot back position, Rich Bloom and Ken Hall veterans, and Rober Beilman, freshman, gave the USF squad fine strength and depth, while LaPlante, veteran Bob Guy, and rookies Tom Lotz, Chris Schock, and John Fry, manned the ends, although generally the end and slotback positions were interchangeable (TheDon).
