Other returning pitchers include veteran Vic Guinasso and surprise, surprise, Kevin Keating who moved from behind the plate to the mound in a reliever's role against Stanford in his debut. Also in the bullpen, two talented freshmen will be called upon for assistance throughout the year in John Duchi and Ken Huffman. On the remainder of the field one finds: at first base, Bob Bachtold who moved in from centerfield to anchor the Diamond Don ace, John Pachetti, fires a pitch in the season opener at Stanford as first baseman Bob Bachtold awaits the result.

Bob Bachtold with his third single of the afternoon drove in Sears, who also singled for a third time in the eighth for the final Don run. Belardi also added three hits to the Don cause. Bullock went four innings picking up his fourth win giving up only two hits and no walks before allowing John Duchi, Vic Guinasso and Jim Leoni to get some more mound work in and combine for the first Don shutout of the 1977 campaign. For USF as a team the week has been a moral booster after some long afternoons of baseball (TheFoghorn).
