A native of Daly City, Jeff Dietrich attended Seramonte High School, and played for the Dons from 1980 to 1983 and pitched 286 innings. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 8th round (206th overall) of the 1979 MLB Amateur Draft.

Dante Benedetti called on freshman Jeff Dietrich to salvage something in the final game of the series. Dietrich pitched well, carrying a 3-2 lead into the sixth, thanks to an inside the park home run by John Mangiante. However after getting one man out on a grounder to the Dons smooth fielding second baseman, Monico Corral, Dietrich gave up two singles and three straight walks, forcing in two runs and making the score 4-3.

Last year's NCBA Pitcher of the Year, Rich Bordi, took the mound for Fresno, in the first lead after the first inning of a doubleheader on Saturday, opposed by Jeff Dietrich. Bordi's record going into the game was 3-0, while Dietrich's was the exact opposite 0-3. The two hurlers battled each other on Ulrich Field for four innings, until the top of the fifth when the Bulldogs finally got to Dietrich. With one out, a dribbling ground ball that barely snuck through the infield gave Fresno a runner on first. " Greg Funk followed with a triple to deep center, scoring the runner. When Monico Corral's relay ended up in the USF dugout, Funk was awarded home. Bowman had nothing but praise for starter Jeff Dietrich. "Dietrich threw excellent. He's getting better each time out, which is very rewarding (TheFoghorn)."
