The losses of Theo Van Derheyden and Archie Roboostoff to the professional ranks has got to hurt. It's just not that easy to replace the two integral members of a team playing a team-oriented sport. Add to the losses the injuries to Paul Korn and Tom Tronstad and you'd think coach Steve Negoescop would be on the first plane out of town. However Negoesco isn't that kind of guy. He brought Andy Atuegbu, Robbie Schuitt, Jim Boyle, Bjorn Skaagen, Kjell Truedt, and Mike McCrory to San Franciso to add talent and depth to his club, and injuries aside, the season has been most profitable.

The unassisted goal gave the Dons a 4-1 lead and reason to relax a bit. The play, however, remained aggressive. About :35 minutes into the half, a Pioneer defender collided with Michael McCrory, resulting in a foul and a USF direct kick. The Hayward team began to form a wall as Tom Tronstad was designated to take the kick. As soon as the referee blew the whistle, Tronstad lined a shot over the heads of the players, surprising the wall and the startled goalie as well. When the gun sounded, the Dons had a satisfactory non-league victory. All of the players who suited up saw action, except for the backup goalie (TheFoghorn).
