Two days later the Dons traveled to Sacramento to face Sacramento State University. John Homitz. who has been the ace of the bull pen all year, started for the Dons and recorded his first victory of the season. Homitz went all the way registering a complete game in his first start of the year giving up only live hits and one earned run as the Dons won 9-3.

USF got going in the second game of the series as Arnie Sambel belted a second inning solo home run and the Dons never looked back. Senior Ed Paulus, in his last start as a Don, pitched exceptionally well for 6-plus innings. John Homitz came in and eventually got the win as USF scored four times in the top of the eighth, highlighted by Ted Langowski's two-run double, The final was 9-5 (USFFoghorn).

Homitz also became a Sportswriter for the Foghorn in 1991.
