Three freshmen, namely Kim Rowbatham, Lisa Maurino and Jeannie Ray all put together performances when they were most needed. Maurino and Ray, sometimes referred to as the "Dynamic Defenders" were responsible for the Dons trip to the WAIAW Regionals. After a flat opening against Humboldt State and British Columbia in the USF final contest, it was the two of them that shutout the opposition for long stretches with some aggressive defense that resulted in turnovers, steals, blocked shots and some dominant rebounding. Individually their contributions shone in Maurino's record 55 assists of the year, and Ray's clutch hoops when the opposition attempted to overplay Hile to the maximum. Rowbatham meanwhile provided the offense with over 217 points over the year for a nine point average, third behind Hile and Enos. Her 22-point performance in the season finale became the difference when UC Riverside chose to overplay the Don forwards.

Rounding off the list of returning starters are sophomores, Kim Rowbatham and Lisa Maurino. Rowbatham's soft shooting touch allowed her to earn her way into the starting back court last year. Maurino led the team in assists last season and started at alternating positions. She will play the swing position once again for the Dons in their upcoming season (TheFoghorn).
