Robert A. "Bob" Braghetta was born on July 14, 1935, in San Francisco. He attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory, where he played basketball, baseball, soccer and track, and was Senior Class President.

He attended USF in the class of 1957, and played soccer as a goalkeeper for the Dons. He was All-City Captain in 1953. He played in the Northern California Intercollegiate Soccer Conference in 1955 and they tied the Northern California All-Stars 3-3. In the 1956 NCISC game, Braghetta sustained a shoulder injury.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Marketing in 1957 and earned a credential in Education in 1959. He owned the investment firm Braghetta, Casey, Grimes, and Schmidt in Larkspur, CA. He also worked in management for IDS and Henry Swift. He taught at Polytechnic High School in San Francisco for four years, and was Assistant Director of Admissions at USF for three years.

He was Coach of the Varsity Soccer Team at USF in 1961, and was named to USF Athletic Hall of Fame in 1973. He assisted in USF Annual Fund Drives. He supported Fr. LoSchiavo's decision to suspend the men's basketball following allegations of academic violations in 1982. He participated in the 1987 event to honor Steve Negoesco at USF.
