Two Empire high schools, Healdsburg and St. Vincent's, will celebrate new Athletic Hall of Fame induction classes this month.
The six new Healdsburg Greyhound inductees are Lainie Bebber, Todd DiCello, Mechelle Buchignani, Keith Walker, Derek Shelton and Ron Walters. Walker, a 1949 grad, played basketball and baseball and later played college basketball at USF on scholarship (PressDemocrat).
Thus Phil Woolpert summed up the style that fans will see in the 1952-1953 edition of the USF Don basketball squad. He went on to enlighten this statement, saying that this lack of height is not expected to hurt his offense in the least, but improve it. As for defense, though, it will pose some sort of a problem. Coach Phil himself feels that, barring injuries to key players, we will be in for a very good season. Twelve veterans were among the twenty-two candidates who turned out for opening day practice last Thursday and all seemed very enthusiastic about the outcome of this year's season. The veterans include Phil Vukicevich, All-Northern California guard; Dick Jensen, Keith Walker and Jack Cannon, all seniors; Frank Evangelho, leading scorer of last year; Rich Mohr, Carl Lawson, Jerry Harrington, Klem Korte, juniors; and sophs K.C. Jones, Jerry Mullen, and Bill Bush (TheFoghorn).
