Terry McManus graduated in 1984 from USF with a Bachelor's in Business and later attended JFK School of Government at Harvard. He served as an Assistant Chief of Police in San Diego, Chief of Police in Capitola, and as Chief Investigator in Solano County Health and Human Services beginning in 2021. While at USF, he played baseball with the Dons, from 1981 to 1984. After USF he coached youth sports (LinkedIn).
After 1981, everyone would agree that pitching could stand a change of style. Last season's staff yielded an earned run average of 6.75 a game. The starters will need the confidence in 1982 that they lacked in 1981. On the mound this season will be senior right-hander Chuck Nat (6.02), senior right-hander Con Dempsey (8.49), and sophomore right-hander Terry McManus (12.86). Newcomer Bob Reed rounds out the starting rotation. Relief from the bullpen will be given by senior Andre Rachel (4.85) and lefty Jeff Dietrich (5.35), a junior. Along with the hefty ERA, the returning pitchers gave up 212 walks in 274 innings, an average of 5.4 walks a game. Defensively, the Dons are adequate overall, and strong up the middle.
After an emotional and heartbreaking loss on Friday night, the Dons came out flat for the doubleheader on Saturday. The Bulldogs went right to work on the Dons in the first inning of the first game Saturday, scoring three times, due mostly to a shaky defense behind starting pitcher Terry McManus. The Bulldogs finished off the Dons with six runs in the final three frames, including three in the 6th, two in the 7th, and one in the 8th to win 9-0. McManus took the loss for the Dons (TheFoghorn).
