The Dons soundly crushed the Humboldt nine in the first encounter with a 5-0 win behind the talented left arm of hurler Jerry Eilers. Eilers allowed only three hits and fanned 14 of the opposition en route to his sixth victory of the season. Center fielder Gary Musante collected three hits in the opener including a line shot over the left-center barrier. The Dons dropped the second affair 3-2 despite a fine pitching performance by Mike Barnhart.
Throughout the season, right-hander Mike Barnhart and lefty Jerry Eilers have been the workhorses of the home pitching corps. The knuckle-balling Barnhart has won five while dropping four decisions. He has a 2.08 ERA and has struck out 63 opposing batters. Eilers has a 5-2 won-loss record, striking out 54 and compiling a 2.84 ERA (TheFoghorn).
