Upon conclusion of the dunk competition, the USF basketball team will split into "Green" and "Gold" teams for their first public scrimmage of thc season. Familiar names such as point guard Orlando Smart, forwards Alvin Brown, Jason Boyd and Wilson Stephens, guards Roy Modkins, Tomas Thompson, Mike Brovelli and center John Glavan will be joined by five newcomers that helped provide USF with one of the top recruiting classes in thc nation. Among the new players are Northern California all-time prep scoring leader Gerald Walker, All-City forward John Duggan, Las Vegas "Player of the Year" Booker T. Washington, former L.A. "Player of the Year" Tyrone Paul, and standout transfer Kent Bennett.
Oil Saturday, USF held its annual George O'Brien Game as the Gold defeated the Green, 110-109. The scrimmage showcased coach Jim Brovelli's returning players along with the new recruits that made up the 28th best recruiting class in the nation. Tomas Thompson led the Gold squad with 36 points, going 6-for-9 from 3-point range. Redshirt freshman Tyrone Paul drilled home 17 for the Gold team while freshman Booker T. Washington added 16 (TheFoghorn).
