Ted Turkington attended Foothill Junior College and then USF. He was considered one of the top defensive catchers at USF and batted .246 his first season. A 1997 graduate of the University of San Francisco with a Degree in Business Administration, Turkington studied Kinesiology at St. Mary's College in 2001. He went into coaching and taught at Bellarmine College Preparatory.

Jim Rogan, a transfer from East Carolina, "could be our best defensive catcher right now," according to Hill, who can also call on junior Ted Turkington from Foothill JC, and sophomore Brian Hardt, who batted .246 in his first season at USF.

But with one out and runners at the corners, Turkington, who otherwise played his best game of the year, hit into a 3-6-3 double play, ending the Dons (13-21) day and giving the Bulldogs their 17th straight win over USF, dating back to 1984.

Jermaine Clark at first after a RBI single to left, and Ted Turkington at third, Clark looked to be a dead duck at first on a pickoff, but he outfoxed the Cardinal and slid back to first. Clark, on the next play, stole second, before the ensuing throw bounced near second base and into centerfield to score Turkington, but close enough to keep Clark at second. Nelsons ground out to third moved Clark up before Purkiss launched a ball to right, which tugboats in the Bay may still be looking for, giving USF a 4-3 lead.

Catcher Ted Turkington showed early that his defense as well as his offense later in the game would keep the Dons undefeated In the third—on a wild pitch—he threw to pitcher Trevor Schaffer, covering home to keep PSU scoreless, and each inning before he caught one runner stealing second and had a near miss on another. Turkington also came through at the plate, hitting an RBI single to left to give the Dons a 2-0 lead. But the other half of the battery also came through (TheFoghorn).
