The rest of the second half saw, USF putting strong pressure on Indiana only to be turned away. After DiBernardo put Indiana ahead the Hoosiers once again tightened up their defense and concentrated on keeping the Dons from scoring. The game came down to the last few minutes as Dag Olavsen, Thomas Scmidke and Luis Magahales all missed chances to send the game into overtime.
There were two other places that stood out for the Dons in the tournament. One was the Dons outstanding bench strength. Made up of mostly freshmen such as Luis Magahales, Thomas Scmidke, Dennis Atuegbu, David Price, Franco Sciaroni and Glen Van Straatum, the Dons showed they would not be weakened when the first team was on the bench. The second area is the goalkeepers spot. Officially Pete Arnautoff is listed as the first string goalie. However he has been with the U.S. National team the last few weeks, and though he was available for action in the tournament, Andy Fry played instead and continued to do a great job. He had a four game consecutive shutout streak going into the tournament but against the higher level of competition he showed just how good he really is. Against St Louis he had ten goalie saves, and after the game Assistant Coach Lee Atack walked up to him, shook his hand and said: "Andy Fry, that was an outstanding game (TheFoghorn)."
