Once again it was up to the gutty Don defense to hold the ninth best offense in the nation in 1968. The defense was equal to the test and spectacular plays by Rick Reid, Al Lopez, Steve Haag, and Figone held the Highlanders on the Green and Gold 26. Al Lopez, returning for his fourth campaign, was all over the field, knocking down passes and "spearing" ball carriers. The defense played together as if it was the middle of the season. There was great pursuit, gang tackling, fantastic "sticking" and some internal injuries to the Cossacks.
Joining Rick in the secondary is Al Lopez, a mainley JC to the '68 title while earning all-league honors as a frosh (TheFoghorn).
