It was a completely different game as Eilers was not able to locate the strike-zone with his usual pinpoint control. Consequently, the Cal batsmen turned 5 hits and 3 walks into eight runs before coach George McGlynn called in right-handed Jim Tonascia to shut the door. The Bears added 2 more runs in the fourth to make the score 10-0 before the Dons began to roll. In the top of the USF fifth with the bases loaded and no out, Vusich slammed a ground ball which the shortstop fielded and threw wild into right field. This cleared the bases making the score 10-3. Shortstop Ron Pacenkopf and center fielder Gary Musante supplied the Dons with the remainder of the punch to finish the scoring at 10-6. Relief ace Mike Barnhart followed Tonascia to the mound in the seventh, and pitched 2 innings of hitless ball after giving up only 2 hits in three innings against Stanford.
Mike Barnhart went six innings in notching his fourth win against no losses. Jim Tonascia pitched the final three frames retiring the nine men he faced in order. First baseman Roy Reitz provided most of the punch for USF with two hits and three RBI's. Pacenkoph, Courtney and Gary Musante also helped out collecting two hits apiece (TheFoghorn).
