Despite a disappointing record in 1989, the Dons had a bevy of talent returning to this year's team. Leading the return is junior swing hitter Melanie Kaiser. Kaiser enters her junior campaign following a superb '89 in which she was named All- West Coast Conference and USF's MVP. "Melanie has the rare ability to take over a match," says Bethanis "and she will be heavily counted on this season." Joining Kaiser at the swing hitter position will be seniors Jenny Schrack and Dru Ueltschi, as well as junior Jennifer Kokubun. All three are good athletes and are expected to provide the Netters with many offensive options.
Coach Corbelli says the team is a very smart group, capable of adapting to the situation at hand. "We made key adjustments last night against BYU- Hawaii, and when I see that kind of progress I'm happy," she says. According to Corbelli, both Denise Pardoen and Anastas are playing well in the middle. Jenny Schrack, Corbelli says has made a big contribution as well. "When she comes off the bench she brings a punch to the team (TheFoghorn)."
