Sunday evening's hastily called scrimmage with the varsity team, besides damaging the squad's pride (they were eased out, 61-7), also cost them the services of burly center, Lawrence Slajchert, a 205-pounder from Chicago, Illinois, who broke an ankle. With the ranks already thin, his loss will be felt during the season.

In one short year, the 1951 University of San Francisco football team has spread to all parts of the nation. Many of the seniors have graduated into the professional football ranks while undergraduates with remaining years of eligibility have transferred to other colleges. At the University of Wichita, Larry Slajchert and John Cronin are aspirants for the grid squad. The former Dons are slated for heavy duty. Slajchert is South Side of Chicago, while Cronin played his prep ball at St. Ignatius High School (TheFoghorn).

After having been employed in corporate human resources for many years, Slajchert ventured into his own business in the insurance industry. A former member of St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell, he was most recently a member of St. David the King Church in West Windsor. He was a member of the famous 1951 San Francisco Dons football team as a center and linebacker (StarLedger).
