Ron Centerwall scored on a six-foot fall-away shot. Meanwhile, the Dons defense was slowing down the Gaels running game considerably. Pete Cross and Ron Centerwall led the USF rebounding charge with 14 and 9 rebounds respectively.
The returning starters from last year include forwards Ron Centerwall and John Burks; and Terry Senn and John Hancock at guards. The third "redshirt" guard Ron Santos, is joined by first year varsity members Mike Quick and Phil White. The Dons schedule, probably one of the toughest in the nation, will face their toughest opposition in the first part of the season against USC, Cal, Weber State in Ogden, and Santa Clara, the last three in the Cable Car Classic here in San Francisco. Going into the season of the West Coast Athletic Conference, the Dons will find formidable opposition from Pacific, Santa Clara, and Loyola in their quest for a league championship (TheFoghorn).
