Coach and Player

Ken was a part of USF baseball for fifteen years, first as a player and then as a coach. During those fifteen years, the Diamond Dons have been constantly improving, and much of that improvement can be credited to Ken Bowman and his talented coaching staff. Ken's coaching philosophy is based on hard work and determination. He measures success by different standard than most coaches. "I don't measure success in wins and losses. Instead, I measure our success by the steady improvement of the entire program. If the players perform to their potential, we are, and will be, successful," he concludes.

Ken Bowman's baseball credentials speak for themselves. After four seasons as a successful pitcher at USF, Ken signed with the Oakland A's and played two season in the professional ranks. In 1977 he returned to USF as an assistant coach to a man whose name is synonymous with USF baseball, Dante Benedetti. The Dons' diamond was dedicated to Dante in a special ceremony on March 2, 1985.

Ken Bowman, like his mentor Dante, believes in helping young people through baseball and life. They both feel that in life, as in baseball, one should work on weaknesses, not on strengths. Doing so will make you a better person. Ken pursued this philosophy through a Masters Degree in Special Education at USF in 1977.

Ken, his wife Chris, and their two sons, Jeffrey and Scott, reside in San Bruno.
