The 1993 USF Baseball season will be a campaign of laying a foundation for future success at Benedetti diamond. This season will go down in history as the first to feature two very important additions to the program. First, the scholarship pot has become noticeably richer, with 15 new annual 1/4-tuition scholarships being added to the previous seven full scholarships. In the past, it has been tough for Head Coach Ken Bowman and his staff to be able to attract top quality athletes to the Hilltop because of the lack of available scholarship money; this has contributed to the less competitive Dons teams in recent years.

This season, the immediate impact is seen in the increased quantity of players turning out for the squad. The number of athletes has doubled from a year ago; 50 players will constitute the varsity and the new junior varsity programs. The new JV program will play its own separate schedule. "Having a JV team is a positive thing because it will build a developmental system and forms a unit that can have loyalty and pride for the USF program," states Coach Bowman.

Jones will most likely anchor the bullpen, with senior lefty Robert Aldridge, and junior right-handers Joe Zamagni and Tony Perazzo shaping up the rest of the pen. Others who might see time on the mound include junior Brian Nelson, who shows much composure and control, freshmen righty Marty Cole, and frosh south paw Cass Fegan (TheFoghorn).
