The story of this game was defense. Mami Selway, Moana Asam, Margaret Lucey, and Sargent were instrumental in the victory as they constanly thwarted Chico's offensive attack. During the of season, Visser concentrated on recruiting support for Haines. Kim Nestoroff from Claremont, Pamela Riggs from Covina, and Dawn Koch from Boise, Idaho are "solid forward threats" according to Visser. USF returns some very fine players from its 1988 squad. Sophomores Marni Selway and Moana Asam, and junior Margaret Lucey anchor the backfield. Goalkeeper Aileen Blackburn, a sophomore, returns after recording two shutouts last season (TheFoghorn).
