  • Class
    1972
  • Honors
    Baseball (1969-1970)
Allan Paganucci, born in 1948, was a relief pitcher for the Dons from 1969 to 1970. He batted and threw right handed, 6', 195 lbs.  He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 24th Round of the 1970 MLB June Amateur Draft.

He attended Junipero Serra High School and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012.

Al has fond memories of his baseball days at Serra. During his sophomore year, his win/loss record was 4-0 in the Catholic Athletic League. When Al was a senior, he was an Advance Star Athlete of the Week. That same year, the Serra varsity team won the Western Division of the Catholic Athletic League. Al pitched a no-hitter against Bellarmine with 16 strikeouts. He went on to play baseball at the College of San Mateo and the University of San Francisco, before being drafted to play for the Chicago White Sox in the Minor Leagues. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is serendipitous for Al, who looked up to Padre Hall of Famers Angelo Colombo and Jim Fregosi as a student at All Souls Elementary School in South San Francisco. "It's nice to be in the same Hall of Fame as those two guys, because we all looked up to them when they were at All Souls and then when they played baseball at Serra,” Paganucci noted. "The biggest thing I learned at Serra was that there's a whole world out there filled with all different kinds of people. We all got along and accepted each other. We had such a great class—everybody supported everybody.” After baseball, Al worked in sales for 25 years. He retired earlier this year, and is enjoying his days playing golf and spending time with his family (JuniperoSerraHS).
