Biography: Smith played baseball for four years on the Hilltop from 1969-1973. He led the Green and Gold in slugging average during his junior year, helping guide USF to a second place finish in league play. Smith was an excellent defensive outfielder during his time on the Hilltop with a great throwing arm. To this day baseball is still in his blood as he is the commissioner of the San Mateo Little League on the Peninsula.

Why Smith Chose USF: “My best fiend since I was in second grade, at McKinley Elementary also decided to attend USF, over his San Francisco State football scholarship. My aunt lived just one block from the USF campus, just over the wall on Grove Street.”

Favorite USF Memories: “I remember the guys on the team kidding me how at UNLV I hit a one-handed home run out of the deepest part of park in center field. At the end of season in a game against Pepperdine, I made a great catch and then threw to home plate for a double play to secure second place in the WCAC.”

The USF Student-Athlete Experience: “There was great camaraderie among all the student-athletes. I have continued contact with at least 15 student-athletes over the years."

Life After USF: Smith has been the San Mateo Little League Baseball Commissioner for the past few years. He is also a middle school basketball and track volunteer Coach.
